Zero Density introduces Open Studio License Program
Zero Density has launched an Open Studio License Program, which offers the entire software stack of Zero Density’s Unreal-based graphics ecosystem at no cost to independent creators, indie creators and developers, small businesses and academic users. Entities with annual revenues under $1 million are eligible for the programme.
With this step, Zero Density aims to expand the user base of its advanced virtual production and real-time motion graphics platform. By doing so, the talent pool available to clients on the paid licence model will grow, enriching the ecosystem with more skilled professionals. Additionally, this broader user base will contribute to more extensive and timely feedback on new releases and features, accelerating the refinement of the software.
All developers gaining access will have the opportunity to create new functionalities within the open platform that will benefit the entire Zero Density user base. This initiative is designed to enhance the experience for all users, ensuring that clients in the paid licence model receive even greater value from the platform.
The programme offers full access to all licences within Zero Density’s Unreal-based ecosystem, including Reality5, Lino, Reality Hub and the Traxis Hub. These tools facilitate the creation of virtual studios, augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), on-air graphics and video wall graphics, all integrated into an end-to-end real-time graphics workflow.
Zero Density introduced the programme following changes to the End User License Agreement (EULA) by Epic Games, the company behind Unreal Engine. Companies with annual revenues below $1 million are eligible for the free use of Epic Games’ software, while those exceeding this threshold are required to pay a subscription fee. Zero Density’s Open Studio License Program follows the same model.
For those needing advanced features, the Evo II render engine and Traxis Camera Tracking and Traxis Talent Tracking hardware are available as paid options, providing enhanced rendering and tracking capabilities.
As of 12 September new users have been able to access the software by connecting their Epic account to the Unreal GitHub environment. Following this, they must register on the Zero Density website to receive the necessary licences. During registration, users will be required to provide basic information about their business or project to verify eligibility. The licences granted under this programme are valid for one year.
