Net Insight Nimbra 600 gets expanded virtual function offering
Net Insight has expanded the virtual function offering on the Nimbra 600 series to drive down the costs for remote production and media networking.
Building on the virtual function flexibility of the high capacity FPGA-based media acceleration module and the x86-based media processing module, the availability of multiple new virtual functions reduces hardware costs and cuts the amount of bandwidth needed to remotely produce high quality content.
Multiple virtual functions, including 1/10 GbE IP transport, lossless Ethernet services and switching, JPEG 2000 encoding/decoding are now joined by low latency 4:2:2 10-bit MPEG H.264/AVC encoding/decoding and the ST2022-2 IP gateway applications. This suite of applications targeting common hardware unlocks the capability to repurpose media and production workflows to always align with the most cost-effective connectivity, Net Insight claims.
The company goes on to note that this boost to the openness and interoperability of the Nimbra 600 series means that it is now possible to extend high-end media networks and remote production workflows with the internet and cloud delivery capabilities, as available in the Nimbra 400 and Nimbra Edge product families.
The Nimbra 600 series has, the company points out, undergone a transformation to become a key part of Net Insight’s ongoing cloud, IP and virtualisation program, and will receive continuous delivery of new virtual functions and function-features.
