IBC 2019: Tellyo powers Sunset+Vine and Mediapro content streaming and clipping during major sporting events

During a busy summer of cricket in England, Sunset+Vine, the London-based sports production company, used the Tellyo platform to create clips and highlights of international T20 games and Test matches.

Using Tellyo, Sunset+Vine packaged highlights of ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) Test matches, T20 games and other international matches. To produce the highlights, live streams were ingested into the Tellyo Pro platform where the Sunset+Vine digital production team used Tellyo’s Editor to provide instant clips for cricket fans globally.

During the 2019 Test matches, clips achieved more than 400 million impressions and more than 100 million views. The most popular Test match clip, on August 21st, yielded 11.3 million views and 164,000 engagements. The most popular overall T20 clip, on August 13th, yielded 15.3 million views with 80,000 engagements.

“Tellyo gives us the speed of deployment and reliability we require, especially when covering so many fixtures for the ECB,” said David Stranks, executive producer digital at Sunset+Vine.

“The Tellyo team has helped us immensely by developing adaptations within their infrastructure to meet our requirements, ensuring that we continue to reach global cricket fans and drive greater engagement with ECB video content.”

Tellyo works closely with Sunset+Vine’s various sports productions, including Crufts, Super League Triathlon, the World Boxing Super Series, Hong Kong World Sixes, and the ECB.

“Over the last year, we’ve continued to work in close partnership with Sunset+Vine to develop our platform and assist in delivering each of their client’s visions,” said Richard Collins, CEO of Tellyo. “Sunset-Vine’s digital team were the first to use our data-driven smart editor to automate video clip production, speeding up workflows and ensuring that ECB clips continue to reach cricket fans first as events unfold.”

Tellyo Stream Studio enables users to vision mix, enhance streams and interactive graphics, overlays and social commentary and create bespoke broadcasts for digital and social channels. Tellyo enables livestreaming of broadcasts to multiple destinations at the same time and create near real-time edits – and publish them to all channels in the middle of social spikes. Adaptive bit rate, advance scheduling, and post-stream announcements are all part of the Tellyo package, which seamlessly integrates with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram and stream to other destinations via RTMP.

MediaPro Leverages Tellyo Cloud Platform for Global Sports Content Streaming and Clipping

MediaPro has used the Tellyo platform to stream, clip, and archive live video and audio for its La Liga, GOL, OneSoccer, and esports UBEAT content over the past year.

La Liga pre-match content was live streamed to La Liga’s account on the Sina Weibo platform, enabling Chinese in-country fans to view unique behind-the-scenes moments of players entering the stadium and warming up. MediaPro makes heavy use of Tellyo’s archive capabilities, with some of its TV channels recording 24/7 within Tellyo. This DVR access for linear TV sports channels provides producers with on the digital team to engage fans during live events and during interstitial moments, ensuring high engagement. OneSoccer accesses a 7-day recording of Canadian soccer to create highlight packages and cut entire matches for delivery to the client’s own CMS, helping to amplify Canadian soccer. During the 2019 Canadian soccer season, there were 2.8 million views for content created or shared via Tellyo.

“With sports fans increasingly wanting more and better content 24/7, we’re always looking for unique and innovative ways to help our sports clients engage with fans through audio and visual content,” said Natxo Imaz Erdoiza, digital projects CTO, MediaPro. “Tellyo is the perfect partner for us – a team and toolset capable of maximizing content opportunities and delivering the technical expertise we require.”

Perhaps one of the more creative applications of the Tellyo platform was the use of audio rights for global La Liga audiences, in which ‘Twitter Radio’ streams were created for live football matches. Here, audio commentary only was live streamed from La Liga matches, accompanied by a short video, which contained an image of the commentary team, with audio visualization played in a loop. Tellyo delivered 203 live streams, with more than 1 million views and 377 hours of live streams.

“The engagement of global sports fans with MediaPro’s content was made for Tellyo; they presented us with the opportunity to create a wide range of options for their producers,” said Collins. “The only limitation for MediaPro was the imagination of ourselves and their producers; with our updated platform, we expect to exceed this past season’s applications.”
