John Howell specialises in developing innovative ways to bring compelling content to screens of all sizes. He works alongside SMT’s business development team to create new services and experiences for SMT clients.
Since joining SMT more than a decade ago, Howell has developed broadcast graphics, virtual sets and augmented graphics solutions for clients including the Masters, Wimbledon, MLS Champions Cup, the Australian Open, the Golf Channel, UFC, Inside Edition, and the Tennis Channel.
Howell blends sports data, entertainment and social media content for large indoor and outdoor electronic displays, which have been used for events such as the U.S. Open, Open Championship, The Player Championship, Presidents Cup, Ryder Cup, Nike US Open of Surfing, the NHL Draft, and the CrossFit Games.
Howell’s work has been featured in Step Into Design and Post magazines, and has been recognised by the LIAA, ADDYs, Tellys, One Show, and D&AD. He has served as a featured speaker at the aTV Fest, Apple Computer¹s Worldwide Developer¹s Conference, the QuickTime Live Conference, and was profiled in the book Real World Video Compression from Peachpit Press.
Howell holds a BA in film and creative writing from Florida State University and has lived and worked in cities across the globe.
