About the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards

The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards, sponsored by Canon, were scheduled to take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground on 27 May. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, however, the awards cannot be bestowed in person at this time. Instead, SVG Europe will be announcing the winners during an ‘as live’ online awards ceremony that will premiere on YouTube and here on the SVG Europe Awards website at 17:00 (UK time) on 27 May 2020.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by Abi Stephens, sports broadcaster and presenter.

The Sports TV Awards trophies themselves will then be handed over in person at a future physical SVG Europe event.

About

After an 18-month break, SVG Europe returns with a revamped and re-imagined awards ceremony, celebrating the best of sports broadcasting and production across Europe.

Moving from its former home at the Sports Production Summit in Amsterdam to the Sports OTT Forum in London (27 May 2020), the tightly focussed SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2020 will continue to have creative, production and distribution excellence at its core but it will also take into account work that has wider benefits for the sports TV business.

As such, the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2020 will recognise and honour the outstanding companies, teams and individuals that pushed sports broadcasting and production forward within the 2019 calendar year.

For an overview of the four categories, see below. For more specific details including judging criteria go to the Categories page.

The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2020 are free to enter.

The deadline for entries is 11 March 2020. DEADLINE EXTENDED! The deadline for submissions is now 18 March 2020

As in previous years, the SVG Europe Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed at the Sport Production Summit in Amsterdam.

Categories overview

Outstanding Production Achievement*+
In this category, SVG Europe recognises a sports production that has delivered outstanding live coverage for viewers and/or media partners and pushed the boundaries of sports broadcasting. Considerations include overall quality of the production and storytelling; innovative use of new technologies; and lasting impact of new production techniques. The event could be a multi-day tournament or event, a season-long league or a single match, contest or competition.

Outstanding OTT Experience*+
The Outstanding OTT Experience award is given to a sports OTT or streaming service or app that in the view of the judges takes advantage of digital and personalisation to offer a viewing or user experience that is more engaging than traditional broadcast alone. Considerations include feature design and ease of use; production enhancements such as alternate camera angles and graphics; or innovation in viewing or engagement.

One Planet Award for Sustainability in Sports TV*+
The One Planet Award recognises and rewards individuals, companies, projects or initiatives from across the sports broadcasting and production sector that can demonstrate an impactful contribution to the transition to a net-zero carbon and zero waste society. Applications covering all aspects of the sector are invited, including the technology we use, our production and operational practices and the editorial content we bring to audiences.

SVG Europe Women Award for Diversity in Sports TV*+
The SVG Europe Women Award for Diversity in Sports TV is given to an organisational programme that is designed to encourage diversity within the sports production and the media industry. Considerations include an effective public-facing initiative that encourages diversity; tangible changes that improve the diversity of an organisation; and both intervention and thought leadership.
