The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2021 will celebrate the best of sports broadcasting and production across Europe, recognising and honouring the outstanding companies, teams and individuals that pushed sports broadcasting and production forward within the 2020 calendar year.

The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2020 are free to enter. The awards will be bestowed at a ceremony on Thursday 28 October 2021.


Categories overview

Outstanding Production Achievement – Event*
In this category, SVG Europe recognises a sports production that has delivered outstanding live coverage for viewers and/or media partners and pushed the boundaries of sports broadcasting. Considerations for 2021 include the overall quality of the production and storytelling; innovative use of new technologies; overcoming the challenge of COVID, and the long-term impact of new production techniques. The event could be a multi-day tournament or event, a season-long league or a single match, race, contest or competition.

Outstanding Production Achievement – Innovation*
In this category, SVG Europe recognises a sports production or broadcasting innovation that has, as part of a wider broadcast or channel/service output, delivered a new way of covering sporting action either on or off-screen. Considerations for 2021 include; innovative use of new technologies; the lasting impact of new production techniques; and the benefit to the success of overall production. It will also take into account the pressures and challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and how these were overcome. The innovation could be part of a multi-day tournament or event, a season-long league or a single match, race, contest or competition.

Outstanding OTT or Engagement Experience
The Outstanding OTT or Engagement Experience award is given to a sports OTT or streaming service, feature or app that in the view of the judges takes advantage of digital and personalisation to offer a viewing or user experience that is more engaging than traditional broadcast alone. Considerations include design and ease of use; production enhancements; or innovation in viewing or engagement.

Outstanding Audio Innovation*
In this category, SVG Europe recognises a sports production or broadcasting innovation in the field of sound that has, as part of a wider broadcast or channel/service/online/app output, delivered a new way of experiencing or delivering sports television audio. Considerations for 2021 include; innovative use of new technology; overcoming the challenge of COVID, the lasting impact of new production techniques; and the benefit to the success of overall production. The innovation could be part of a multi-day tournament or event, a season-long league or a single match, race, contest or competition.

One Planet Award for Sustainability in Sports TV*
The One Planet Award recognises and rewards individuals, companies, projects or initiatives from across the sports broadcasting and production sector that can demonstrate an impactful contribution to the transition to a net-zero carbon and zero waste society. Applications covering all aspects of the sector are invited, including the technology we use, our production and operational practices and the editorial content we bring to audiences.

SVG Europe Women Award for Diversity in Sports TV*
The SVG Europe Women Award for Diversity in Sports TV is given to an organisational programme that is designed to encourage diversity within the sports production and the media industry. Considerations include an effective public-facing initiative that encourages diversity; tangible changes that improve the diversity of an organisation; and both intervention and thought leadership.

Outstanding Contribution to European Sports Production
The SVG Europe Outstanding Contribution to European Sports Production award is presented to an individual who has changed or significantly influenced the nature of sports content creation and distribution within Europe. Criteria include longevity within the industry, the impact their professional career has had on the sports production community, and their commitment to moving the industry forward in a positive way.



The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2021 will be judged by a panel of industry experts.

The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards are produced by SVG Europe, an independent pan-European trade association run by an advisory board and executive staff.
