2011: Year in Review – February

Al Jazeera Sports, set to be a major player as the year unfolded, had some new studios, 3D dominated the talk at BVE and led Telegenic to commission its third OB truck, and Sky Deutshcland announced that it would launch Sky Sport News HD in the winter.

Al Jazeera Sports chooses Trilogy for new studios

Al Jazeera Sports is installing a Trilogy Communications intercom system for its three new studios as part of the first 3G installation in the Middle East. Work on the new centre at Al Jazeera Sports’ headquarters in Doha, Qatar, is being overseen by systems integrator Tek Signals.

 

3D makes impact at London’s BVE

The 3D sessions and seminars were predictably packed at a crowded and buzzing Broadcast Video Expo (BVE) in London last week. The Hollywood Post Alliance may have offhandedly dismissed 3DTV recently, but, elsewhere in the industry, interest is still running at hyperbolic levels, nowhere more than in sports.

 

Sony to add third 3D truck to Telegenic fleet

With interest in 3D gripping Europe, UK OB specialist Telegenic has commissioned Sony Professional to build a third 3D vehicle to join the two dedicated trucks already in operation producing content for BSkyB’s 3D channel.

 

Sky Deutschland to launch Sky Sport News HD

Sky Deutschland will launch Germany and Austria´s first live 24/7 sport news channel, Sky Sport News HD, next winter. The channel’s focus will be on high-energy, dynamic, around-the-clock sport coverage with an emphasis on live and breaking news reporting across Germany and Austria.
