4EVER to shoot 4K/UHD content at Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy

The French 4EVER UHD-TV project plans to shoot UHDTV phase 2 content during the upcoming Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games taking place in Normandy from August 23 to September 7. According to 4EVER audiovisual quality assessment engineer Julien Libouban, the project will concentrate on the show jumping discipline in the d’Ornano Football Stadium and the vaulting in the Zenith exhibition area (vaulting being a theatrical discipline in which athletes perform on the back of a cantering horse).

During the Games, France Televisions and Orange Labs will record several series in UHD format (roughly four times the resolution of standard 1080p high definition), combining HFR (high frame rate) and HDR (high dynamic range) technologies using a set of two Sony F55 cameras. These materials will be used for subjective testing campaigns so as to assess the video experience enhancement brought about by better colour representation and smoother motion, and in exhibitions where 4EVER will be taking part.

4EVER (standing for ‘Enhanced Video ExpeRience’), https://www.4ever-project.com ) is a French collaborative project, organised into a consortium of nine partners working on enhancing video Quality of Experience: both industrial companies (Orange, Ateme, France Télévisions, Technicolor, TeamCast, GlobeCast, Highlands Technologies Solutions) and academics (INSA-IETR, Telecom ParisTech).

The nine partners of the 4EVER project are funded by the French government with the aim of improving the video Quality of Experience achieved with Ultra High Definition television (UHDTV) and the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard.
