EBU and FIS extend Ski Flying agreement to 2024
The European Broadcasting Union and the International Ski Federation have renewed their media rights and services partnership for the FIS Ski Flying World Championships for two additional editions through to 2024.
This ensures extensive free-to-air coverage on EBU Members’ TV and radio channels and digital platforms.
Covering the exclusive media rights worldwide distribution for the two events in 2022 and 2024, the agreement also sees the EBU continue as FIS’s service partner, working closely together on aspects of distribution and production including live streaming. The new partnership will also focus on enhancing the digital exploitation of events across FIS’ platforms, and facilitating the usage of near-to-live clips by athletes, sponsors and organizers on social media.
EBU Director of Sport Stefan Kürten said, “We are proud to continue our relationship with the FIS Ski Flying World Championships though the extension of our multi-services partnership. The last edition in Obersdorf (GER) was a great success with a packed venue and thrilling competition, captivating audiences through the high quality coverage of our Member broadcasters, in particular in Poland and in Germany. It is exciting to continue to be a key part of the story of this growing sport through to 2024.”
FIS President Gian Franco Kasper said, “The Ski Flying World Championships have continued to strengthen over the years and we are very pleased to continue the relationship with the EBU, ensuring support from some of Europe’s biggest broadcasters of winter sports. FIS is always seeking new ways to engage with our many audiences to continue to drive growth and visibility and continuing the relationship with the EBU helps ensure that the Ski Flying World Championships will gain maximum exposure in the upcoming editions.”
The FIS Ski Flying World Championships are staged every second year (even years) and traditionally rotate between the five existing venues with Ski Flying hills, Planica SLO), Oberstdorf (GER), Vikersund (NOR), Harrachov (CZE) and Tauplitz/Bad Mitterndorf (AUT). The 2022 edition of the Ski Flying World Championships will take place in Vikersund, while the host of the 2024 edition will be announced two years from now.
