FutureSPORT 2023: BBC Sport, Sky Sports, EMG and IMG speakers added to the content programme for 23 November event in London

Speakers from Sky Sports, BBC Sport and Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe are among the names added to SVG Europe’s FutureSPORT, sponsored by Panasonic Connect, which will take place at the Oval Cricket Ground in London on Thursday 23 November 2023.

Alex Redfern, EVS, CTO; Brian Leonard, IMG Studios, Head of Engineering; Rohan Mitchell, EMG Group, ESG Director; and Steve Knee, Cloudbass, Managing Director, will be tackling the hot topic of sustainability in sports broadcasting.

In ‘Back to Reality: The future of sports presentation studios’, Ben Wickham, Director of Creative Output, Sky Sports; John Murphy, Creative Director, Motion at BBC Sport, and Alex Dinnin, Director of Graphics and Innovation at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, will discuss their respective companies’ recent studio projects, outline what they consider to be best practice for XR studio presentation, and look at how presentation studios might evolve in the coming years.

They will join previously announced speaker Rebecca Jackson, Marketing and Business Development at Caretta Research, who will deliver a presentation analysing sports video consumption.

A panel featuring Rachael Nightingale, Premier League, Head of Media Operations and Innovation; Wendy Hendrickx, F1, Head of Live Production; Victoria Cotton, BBC Sport, Executive Producer, Live Streaming; Louise Lawler, DAZN, VP of Production and Editorial Operations; and Cliona O’Leary, Sport Ireland, Director of Corporate Affairs, Communications and Marketing, will then discuss what they see as the future trends, needs and challenges for the sports broadcasting industry, and how we should respond to, and solve, them.

Also on the programme, former BT Sport Mobile & Immersive Director Matt Stagg, (pictured), will offer up an ‘Essential Guide to Generative AI and Sport’, dispelling some of the current myths about artificial intelligence. This will be followed by a panel of speakers from WSC Sports, Sponix, Newsbridge and Chyron discussing how AI is helping their companies, solutions, or products, and outlining why it’s potentially a force for good in sports tech and within the wider sports broadcasting and production sector.

FutureSPORT will also include the Sports Broadcasting Achievements 2023, sponsored by Canon. This new end-of-year celebration of the European sports broadcasting industry will delve into four projects that represent excellence in the way sports content is captured, managed, manipulated and delivered.
