Qvest brings TV Monaco on-air with makalu and NXTedition

With the support of Qvest, TV Monaco has started operation as the first public TV station of the city-state. Based on its expertise in systems integration and project management, the Qvest team realised a future-proof broadcasting environment. Key components are playout product makalu and a unique media asset management solution.

TV Monaco’s new facilities include a broadcast studio with associated control room and a newsroom for the station’s journalists. It was crucial for the Qvest team to create a scalable, collaborative and particularly agile working environment. With this setup, the broadcaster’s staff prepares and publishes daily television programmes for international as well as local distribution in the Principality of Monaco.

Qvest’s area of responsibility included the conception and orchestration of all broadcasting workflows, the playout infrastructure as well as the media asset management (MAM) and newsroom control system (NRCS). For the latter, Qvest realised an innovative concept: With the implementation of NXTedition, an efficient solution for end-to-end MAM and NRCS workflows was established. In terms of the amount of data to be processed, Qvest has implemented one of the world’s largest NXTedition installations for TV Monaco.

For the playout of the local and international programmes, TV Monaco chose Qvest’s makalu, an all-in-one playout automation solution. makalu enables a full-featured end-to-end signal workflow from ingest to distribution and covers further media tasks such as storage, transcoding, graphics and playout. This makes the station ideally prepared for the demands of a competitive media landscape with changing audience preferences. In addition, Qvest was responsible for setting up the TV station’s IT network. This includes the needs analysis, concept and installation of the entire IT environment in all departments and functional areas of TV Monaco.

The Qvest team worked in close collaboration with French systems integrator CVS Engineering and finalised the project within a tight timeframe. CVS Engineering was responsible for the installation of the audio-video infrastructure, the design and construction of the studio and gallery set-up, as well as the wiring in the facilities.

TV Monaco is the first public broadcaster in the city-state and is part of the French network TV5 Monde. The station’s programming features fields of interest such as news, sports, environment and local culture and lifestyle. The new TV studio and the associated office space for the journalists were realised within only seven months and have been in full operation since 1 September 2023.
