SportsInnovation 2024: The influence of AI to take centre stage during Düsseldorf event

Artificial intelligence will be a central theme at the SportsInnovation event in Düsseldorf later this month with sessions on the agenda covering generative AI, how AI could redefine viewing experience, and AI for automation and real-time data capture.

SportsInnovation 2024 takes place on 20 and 21 March at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, the home of Fortuna Düsseldorf. The centrepiece will be four innovation games, in which the latest sports innovations and technologies will be demonstrated live. Three games will be played by football teams with the fourth being an American football match.

Speakers will be appearing on two stages in the stadium.

Steffen Merkel, the CEO of the German Football League, will kick things off before Sportcast head of innovation and technology management Tim Achberger showcases the Bundesliga’s remote production setup and a new match camera concept. This will take place during the first innovation game.

AI sessions over the two days include: ‘Exploring the Impact of Generative AI in Sports’; ‘Redefining Viewing Experience – AI and Cinematic Exploration in Sports Broadcasting’; ‘Leveraging Live Cloud Production and AI Commentary to Engage Global Fans’; ‘An AI Understanding of Football – Automated, Real-Time Data Capture’; and ‘The Winning Formula: The Transformation of Sports Through Data and AI.’

Another session to look out for is ‘Towards New Horizons: Innovating the Future of Sports Media & Broadcasting’. This will feature a stellar cast of speakers including Dominik Scholler, VP of Product Management and Innovation at the DFL, Sky Deutschland SVP of continental production operations Alessandro Reitano, Michael Bracher, DAZN’s SVP of programming for DACH & Italy, and Barney Carleton NBA Senior Director, Broadcast Planning and Strategy.

Over the two days, delegates will also hear from NFL deputy CIO Aaron Amendolia, Julie Souza, the Head of Sports, Global Professional Services, at Amazon Web Services, and Ben Ladkin who is the managing director of MLB Europe.

There will also be an innovation fair with exhibitors from sport, media, technology and facilities showcasing their technology and services. SportsInnovation 2022 was attended by around 1,200 guests, with more than 60 exhibitors from 17 countries.
