SportTech 2016: AIMS & ASPEN – What’s going on in SDI to IP transition?

We are on the cusp of a giant move from baseband to IP-based production, and undoubtedly the biggest talking point at NAB last week was the set of challenging standardisation issues around this transition. SVG Europe will move this conversation forward at SportTech Europe at the Aviva Stadium Dublin May 18, with the highly topical session, AIMS & ASPEN: What’s Going On In SDI to IP Transition?

Seems like the only thing broadcasters and technology types can agree on is that there are too many formats. Sadly, this pattern looks set to continue over the next connectivity format/standard for IP-based production. Lines are being drawn, positions are being established – and many are hedging their bets by joining both camps. AIMS and ASPEN are looking at SMPTE standards as the basis for their recommendations – unfortunately not the same ones. So what exactly is going on: where are we now, post-NAB, and where will we be by IBC?

Our major standardisation session in Dublin will be moderated by senior SVG Euorpe contributor David Fox, with participation from the key vendors involved including Avid, Evertz, Grass Valley, Imagine Communications, SAM and Sony.
