4K 4Charity opens registration for virtual fun run at SMPTE 2020

4K 4Charity Fun Run organisers have announced that registration has opened for the latest virtual run at SMPTE 2020.

The 4K 4Charity fun run series raises funds for non-profits focused on increasing diversity and inclusion in the technology industry while offering a fun and healthy means for colleagues to connect and give back.

Continuing to keep participants safe, the virtual run allows supporters to choose from a 4K or 8K distance to run, walk, or jog at a time and place that is convenient for them. Once registered, participants simply print out a race bib, and complete the selected distance wherever and whenever they prefer by 9 December.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit organisations advancing diversity initiatives, including Technovation, a global tech education non-profit that empowers girls and families to become leaders, creators and problem-solvers in their lives and communities.

It will also support Unicef, which is on the ground in more than 190 countries, partnering with front-line responders to keep children healthy and protected from sickness and violence.

“The 4K 4Charity’s move to a virtual format is perfect for these times and we are happy to participate again this year. The beneficiaries deal with improving access to education in technology and programming for young people, which SMPTE cares deeply about,” said Barbara Lange, executive director at SMPTE. “I have participated in nearly every one of the 4K 4Charity runs at IBC, NAB, and SMPTE so I encourage everyone to go out and run for a great cause within our industry.”
