Broadpeak partners with Google Cloud to modernise video streaming
Broadpeak, a provider of video streaming solutions and content delivery network (CDN) for content providers and pay-TV operators worldwide, announced a modernized video delivery solution using Google Cloud, simplifying the deployment of advanced streaming services for network operators.
At the heart of the solution is Broadpeak’s BkS350 Origin Packager software running on Google Cloud, enabling operators to modernize their workflows, overcome capacity and storage limitations of on-premises infrastructure, and quickly expand their live, time-shifted, and VOD streaming offerings. Broadpeak’s new solution has successfully been deployed by a tier-one network operator in North America.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Broadpeak and expand the adoption of public cloud for broadcast video applications like cloud DVR,” said Kip Schauer, global head of media and entertainment for Google Cloud. “Integrating Broadpeak’s origin packager software on Google Cloud will enable operators to tap into the resources they need to modernize video architecture and speed up their time-to-market for new streaming services.”
Broadpeak’s modernized video delivery solution, leveraging Google Cloud, provides operators with increased storage capacity while simplifying the deployment of cloud DVR services. Broadpeak’s BkS350 solution packages and encrypts live and VOD streaming content in popular ABR formats, including HLS and mpeg-DASH, and records them for non-linear use cases such as time-shifting, start over, catch-up, and cloud DVR. Utilizing Google Cloud’s object-based management capabilities, operators can improve data analytics, scalability, data retrieval, cost savings, and resource optimization when storing VOD and time-shifted TV content.
Broadpeak utilizes Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), a service that implements full Kubernetes API, four-way autoscaling, release channels, and multi-cluster support. GKE integrates the network and storage modules, which is critical for handling intensive video streaming workloads. Additionally, Broadpeak leverages the Google Cloud Router architecture to ensure seamless multisite connectivity and redundancy.
“Google Cloud enables the simplest and fastest deployment of Broadpeak’s origin software and is a powerful enabler for expanding video streaming services,” said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak. “With Broadpeak’s continuous delivery approach to making software enhancements and leveraging the strength of the Google Cloud infrastructure, our customers now have a flexible and scalable solution for video streaming on any device.”
Broadpeak will showcase its BkS350 Origin Packager software integrated with Google Cloud at IBC2022, from Sept. 9–12 in Amsterdam at stand 1.B79.
