DTS, castLabs announce in-app SDK integration of Headphone:X
DTS Inc., a leader in high-definition audio solutions, announced integration of the DTS Headphone:X technology in castLabs’ media player for Android and iOS. The new castLabs Headphone:X-enabled player will be demonstrated at IBC.
DTS Headphone:X is an advanced audio technology that turns an ordinary pair of headphones into an impressive, personalized virtual surround sound system for mobile devices. The technology supports stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and 11.1 multi-channel audio, offering flexibility within the full spectrum of channel formats. This new in-app version of DTS Headphone:X has made it easy for castLabs to integrate the fully immersive Headphone:X experience directly into their mobile media player. castLabs, a digital video technology and services company, is the first to integrate the DTS Headphone:X technology as a software solution for mobile media players.
“Our clients are constantly looking for compelling innovations that advance the delivery of high-quality video and audio content. Integrating DTS Headphone:X technology into our media player SDK equips our content delivery partners to deliver premium surround sound audio experiences to end users. That’s a win for the entire ecosystem,” said Michael Stattmann, CEO and managing director of castLabs. “Our work with DTS ensures that we remain at the forefront of digital content creation and distribution technologies. We’re very excited about our continuing partnership.”
In addition to enabling fully immersive surround sound via headphones on mobile devices, the DTS Headphone:X technology also includes several unique customization features:
- Personalization, which allows users to create unique listening profiles based on their personal listening preferences;
- DTS Headphone:X Headphone Tuning program that enables headphone manufacturers to enhance their products for use with content that is encoded using the DTS Headphone:X technology;
- Room modeling which simulates the acoustic characteristic of the original mixing studio.
“As the number of consumers enjoying video and audio content on mobile devices continues to rise, their expectations for premium sound quality are rising as well,” said Geir Skaaden, Sr. vice president, digital content and media solutions for DTS. “The castLabs integration ensures that content creators, distributors and device manufacturers have the tools necessary to deliver entertainment content that offers customers the best possible entertainment experience.”
The in-app SDK is now available for both Android and iOS. Demos of the DTS Headphone:X SDK will be featured in castLabs’ media players at IBC at DTS’ stand located in Hall 2, 2.B50 and castLabs’ stand in Hall 14, 14.K02.
