IMG prepares for IAAF Worlds in Korea

UK: The thirteenth IAAF World Championships, and the last significant athletics meeting ahead of next year’s Olympics, start this weekend in Daegu, Korea. With the UK rights picked up by Channel 4, IMG Sports Media and Sunset + Vine have headed out there with a NEP Visions flypack to produce the channel’s add-on coverage.

“We already had a co-production in place between us and Sunset + Vine to produce Channel 4’s Paralympics Coverage for 2012, and they decided it would be good to have the same team to cover the World Championships,” says David Shield, Director of Engineering & Technology at IMG Sports Media.

The production is using a NEP Visions flypack to to provide the co-production centre within the IBC, with the production breaking down roughly along the lines of IMG looking after the sports, S+V the presentation. The flypack consists of four Sony 1500s along with a HDC-3300 super slo-mo and two 2 Sony commentary cameras, all feeding into five EVS machines and two HDW-M2000 tape decks.

“It’s a two-gallery set-up: a sports production gallery where we will assemble our own integrated feed with an obvious UK bias; then we have another gallery which is the presentation gallery,” explains Shield. “That’s being largely looked after by Sunset + Vine with studio, mix zone, interviews, press conferences and so on.”

Coverage starts on Saturday 27 and lasts the whole nine days of the competition, with live programming in the early hours of the morning and a hour-long highlights programme going out every evening in primetime.
