LaLiga brings new season fresh camera angles and graphics

LaLiga introduced FanCam in late 2020, which allows players like Sevilla FC’s Youssef En-Nesyri to celebrate triumphs with fans

LaLiga is bringing fresh new camera angles plus changes to its broadcast graphics package to the upcoming season that begins on 11 August.

With the new season, viewers will be able to enjoy new features from layouts, locations and varying elevations, all designed to bring fans even closer to the game and help create a more immersive experience, blurring the line between real and virtual.

With these new camera angles, some of which were tested at the end of last season, the aim is to make the fans watching the matches feel closer to the action, even becoming part of it.

These new features include:

  • Cinematic cameras: These will offer new shots, bringing the action closer to the viewer, situated in new locations much closer to the players
  • New drones: LaLiga will add a new model of drone to the broadcast, which will offer better image quality, generating an unparalleled panoramic view of the game
  • Aerial camera: Although already in use in the competition, the aerial camera will also undergo changes. It will be positioned even lower in order to show penalties and fouls from the player’s point of view
  • Cameras in the benches: These will be fitted at some of the matches during the season, and will allow fans to see player reactions plus get an insight into how they watch their teammates on the pitch

There will be a minimum of 18 cameras per stadium, rising to more than 32 depending on the match. For example, FC Barcelona, which will play its LaLiga EA Sports matches at the Estadio Lluís Companys, will adapt the camera positions for all its matches to the current requirements and, after achieving promotion, Granada CF will have its first aerial camera at the Nuevo Estadio Los Cármenes.

In addition to the “unique and interactive way” it broadcasts the matches, which are adapted to each field of play, LaLiga said it had worked hard to provide a standardised match broadcast every game, offering the same quality throughout the competition and strictly following the typology of matches once the schedule has been published.
