Packed programme ahead for SVG Europe’s Sport Production Summit in Amsterdam

SVG Europe’s flagship Sport Production Summit takes place at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam September 10, the day before the IBC exhibition opens. Now firmly established in the calendar, Sport Production Summit brings you some of the highest-profile case studies and operational innovations taking place this year in European sports broadcasting.

One innovation for the big day on our part is to introduce a short series of Platinum Sponsor Presentations, as a way of thanking these companies for their commitment to SVG Europe. Presenting for Dolby is Tarif Sayed, Director Broadcast Services; for Limelight Networks Jason Thibeault, Senior Director Marketing Strategy; for SOS Global Express Steve Gruning, Vice-President Global Sales & Marketing; and there will also be a speaker from Harman Group.

The programme will be introduced by Peter Angell, COO at IEC in Sports and Chairman of the Advisory Board at SVG Europe. Our first case study on the programme is UEFA Next Generation Services. We are delighted that former EVS CEO Joop Janssen, Yoap Holding, has agreed to moderate a panel comprising Puiu Dolea, Eurovision, Manager of Business Continuity and Special Projects; Gilles Mas, deltatre, World Football Unit & Digital Host Broadcast Director; and Bernard Ross, UEFA, Head of TV Production.

New Approaches in OB Design is a pretty self-explanatory session, featuring the exciting new 4K UHD trucks appearing for the first time on the European market. SVG Editorial Director Ken Kerschbaumer will helm the session, involving Brian Clark, NEP Visions, Commercial and Technical Projects Director; Kevin Fitzgerald, Gearhouse Broadcast, Head of System and Product Sales; Luc Geoffroy, Euro Media Group, CTO; Robert Kis, TV Skyline, Managing Director; and Dan McDonnell, Timeline TV, CEO.

SVG Europe Managing Editor David Davies takes charge of Sound Affects: The Potential of Immersive Audio for Sports, with Robert Bleidt, Fraunhofer USA Digital Media Technologies, General Manager – Audio and Multimedia Division; Rob France, Dolby, Senior Product Marketing Manager; and Stephan Thyssen, TVN, Audio Manager.

We are also excited to bring you Remote Sports Production: A Pac-12 Revolution, in which SVP Production and Operations Leon Schweir will reveal how this far-sighted organisation is using IP production across 850 live televised events each year, in conversation with Jason Dachman, Editor, Sports Video Group USA.

There’s much anticipatory buzz around panel session BT Sport Ultra HD: Europe’s First 4K Channel, looking not just at the amazing breakthroughs around UHD but also BT Sport’s studio and infrastructure preparations ahead of becoming sole UK rightsholder for UEFA Champions League and Europa League in the UK. SVG Europe Contributor Will Strauss will have his hands full moderating this major session involving Andy Beale, BT Sport, Chief Engineer; Eamonn Curtin, Telegenic, Commercial Manager; Duncan Foot, MOOV, Managing Director; Steve Hart, RT Software, Owner; Jamie Hindhaugh, BT Sport, Chief Operating Officer; Dan McDonnell, Timeline TV, CEO; and Steve Plunkett, Ericsson Broadcast and Media Services, CTO.

Our wrap-up session is View From The Top: Making Big Plans for 2016, sponsored by Bexel with an introduction by Neil Coles, Head of Business Development – Bexel Global Solutions EMEA/APAC. The year 2016 is an ‘even’ year for sports and that means major international events like Summer Olympics, Euro 2016, Ryder Cup and more. For this session, broadcasters from around Europe discuss their current plans for big events to come and what new technologies and techniques we might see introduced for 2016 major sports events coverage.
Ken Kerschbaumer, SVG Editorial Director leads the discussion with Manuela Baraschi, Sky Italia, Head of Sports Production and Operations; Phil Goswitz, DirecTV, SVP of Video, Space and Communication; Barry Johnstone, CTV OB, Managing Director; Henk van Meerkerk, Fox Sports Netherlands, Head of Production; and David Shield, IMG Media, Global Director of Engineering & Technology.
