Sports TV Awards 2021 Finalist: Remote Production and De-centralisation by BT Sport

BT Sport, Telegenic, Timeline TV, and Moov deployed industry-first de-centralised TV in 4K and HDR with Dolby Atmos

BT Sport and partners have deployed an industry-first de-centralised TV ‘broadcast centre’ to bring customers a brand new experience, earning them a coveted place on the prestigious SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2021 shortlist for ‘Outstanding Production Achievement – Innovation’.

Forced to decentralise their entire Stratford hub by the pandemic, BT Sport, Telegenic, Timeline TV, and Moov needed a solution that could accommodate all but a dozen staff working from home, while still maintaining output for sports fans who were also stuck at home. Moving all the key parts of the broadcast operation (production galleries, edit resources, EVS, compliance, and MCR) onto a virtual set-up, their technical staff were able to shoot, edit and playout shows remotely, enabling their roster of presenters, experts, and pundits to record and contribute the best comments and analysis from their homes.

As a result, BT Sport viewers have been enjoying a growing range of programming during the pandemic, including more live games (far beyond its contracted commitments) from the Premier League, Gallagher Premiership Rugby, and Emirates FA Cup – with many of these additional, remotely-produced games being broadcast in 4K and HDR with Dolby Atmos.
