Super Bowl LVIII: More from the biggest Super Bowl in history including an audio first
Super Bowl LVIII was the largest and most impressive Super Bowl production ever, with CBS Sports airing extensive coverage of the Kansas City Chiefs’ overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers at the Allegiant Stadium on Sunday (11 February 2024).
SVG was on site in Las Vegas to find out about all aspects of the mammoth production, with reporting by Ken Kerschbaumer, Jason Dachman and Kristian Hernandez.
Super Bowl LVIII: For the first time, game and halftime show will deploy the same sound system
When Super Bowl LVIII kicks off on Sunday (broadcast on CBS, streamed on Paramount+, Slimed on Nickelodeon), viewers at home and fans in the stands will hear the game’s sound through the same PA system that will amplify eight-time Grammy Award-winner Usher’s halftime performance. It’s the first time the same temporarily installed music PA system will be used as the sound for both the game’s play and the entertainment performances.
The final pieces for Super Bowl LVIII are falling into place. Yesterday, the field tray rolled into Allegiant Stadium, and more and more of the production and support teams, especially those from vendors whose equipment and services are being used by CBS Sports, begin to arrive for the final push and game day.
Super Bowl Latency: ‘Unfortunately, nothing has changed,’ says Phenix in annual study
Delay in latency of Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast increased for the first time in five years, according to a study by the video delivery technology vendor Phenix. In its annual study of the delay viewers experienced based on the platforms in which they consumed Super Bowl LVIII, Paramount+ led the way for streaming options with an average of 42.73 seconds of delay. However, it’s a notable increase in latency when compared to last year’s Super Bowl broadcaster, Fox Sports, which saw only 23.76 seconds of delay on its live stream to the Fox Sports app.
Live From Super Bowl LVIII: Iconic CBS Sports Belaggio Studio is at centre of a busy week
The Bellagio Fountains on the Las Vegas Strip are the iconic centre of the city, so it’s no surprise that CBS Sports settled on a small strip of sidewalk (and one lane of the actual Strip) in front of them as the home of its week-long studio-show operations. Today, the operations shift into game-day mode, hosting the first 90 minutes of the NFL Today pregame show.
With dozens of broadcasters onsite and countless live productions taking place in addition to the Big Game itself, there is an almost unquenchable demand for talented broadcast technicians in Las Vegas this week. Thankfully, Program Productions Inc. (PPI) is up to the task, providing 186 people to fill more than 1,200 tech positions for productions in Vegas over the past month.
Live From Super Bowl LVIII: TelevisaUnivision is ready to serve viewers in two countries
TelevisaUnivision is on hand for its first Super Bowl broadcast ever, delivering more than 90 hours of Super Bowl LVIII programming via two separate productions: one for Televisa in Mexico, the other for Univision, which has the U.S. Spanish-language rights to the game.
Live From Super Bowl LVIII: Inside the CBS Sports, Nickelodeon game booths
Historically, Super Bowl booths have not been a place where new technology transforms the viewing experience. This year, though, both the CBS Sports announce booth that Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will call home and the Nickelodeon booth housing Noah Eagle, Nate Burleson, and, yes, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star are taking things to a new level.
Live From Super Bowl LVIII: NFL Media gears up for eight hours of pregame coverage
It has been a busy week of remote production for the NFL Media team with Super Bowl Opening Night, NFL Honors, and various press conferences. But the team is now focused on the Big Game itself, building a set that, on Sunday, will be home to more than eight hours of coverage from the NFL GameDay production team beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
