SVG Europe Women launches Behind the Lens educational video series to packed crowd at IBC networking event

SVG Europe Women hosted 150 guests at IBC 2023 on Saturday (16 September) for the launch of Behind the Lens, a series of educational videos designed to inspire young people to embark on a career in sports broadcasting by showing them the wide range of job roles available.

Produced in partnership with Aurora, NEP and QTV, the videos cover various jobs from runner to managing director, outlining what is involved in each, how to get a foot in the door, and providing tips on how to succeed once in the role.

Before the screening of Behind the Lens, the head of SVG Europe Women Heather McLean (above, right) sat down with Helen Jeffrey, international sales director at NEP Connect (above, left), and Lucy Lake, director of people and purpose at QTV (above, centre), to look closely at the goals of Behind the Lens and also the wider issues the industry faces in attracting new and diverse talent into sports broadcasting.

The event started with an introduction from McLean, followed by a welcome from Amy DeLouise, creative director of DeLouise Enterprises and founder at #GALSNGEAR, and Judith Franssen (pictured below), sales and project manager at EMG, SVG Europe Women’s annual supporter sponsor.

The event also included extensive networking opportunities.

With improved industry diversity in mind, the Behind The Lens videos are being made available for free. The aim is to inform and inspire children and young adults from the age of 11 up to university students. They are designed for use by individuals as well as educators in the classroom.

From the week of 25 September 2023, the resource will be available to view on a dedicated Behind the Lens website, on YouTube or Vimeo. It will also be possible to download the videos for use in the classroom if preferred.

Each video can be viewed individually or in a special 20-minute-long full cut.
