The Confederation of African Football chooses Globecast for multi-year satellite distribution

Globecast has been selected to provide satellite distribution for The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) main competitions for two seasons. The deal includes the rescheduled Africa Cup of Nations currently being held in Cameroon.

Pierre Ramon, project engineer, Globecast, said: “We have a long-established relationship with supplying services for the Africa Cup of Nations, including the highly successful 2019 event. The Africa Cup of Nations 2021 is one of the world’s great sporting occasions and we are delighted to have been selected by CAF to provide a range of services not only for this event, but also the Champions League of CAF, the Confederation Cup of CAF and the African Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire 2023.”

Globecast is providing main and back up satellite distribution mainly in Europe and Africa but also occasionally to other territories. For the current Africa Cup of Nations, the company is working closely with CRTV, the host Cameroon broadcaster. Alongside premium quality satellite feeds, Globecast is supplying a dedicated technical team for control and monitoring in its MCR in Paris with the redundant feed taking a different route. It is also providing a commentary booth and is providing fibre links to CAF’s graphics partner when required. Globecast also creates streams for CAF’s statistics partner and for CAF to ensure correct sponsor content insertion.

In a recent statement, CAF secretary general Veron Mosengo-Omba, said: “For CAF to reach the next level, it is important to ensure that we have world-class skills and quality television production is one of the key elements in organising world-class events.”

Ramon added: “We’re proud to once again be involved with African football. As Veron Mosengo-Omba says, quality TV coverage is essential to reach as wide an audience as possible to optimise monetisation opportunities. We have years of expertise in this field, including the complex logistics involved with a tournament of this scale.”
