TVU Intros Water-Resistant Enclosure for TM2800 Cellular Modem Module

TVU today released MARC-1, an exterior use and water resistant enclosure that extends the performance of TVU’s flagship TM8200 by giving news field crews the ability to move the system’s detachable 3G/4G cellular modem module to ideal locations for optimal reception such as the roof of an ENG vehicle or a tripod.

With MARC-1, field crews are able to utilize the flexibility of the modular TVUPack TM8200 by moving the modem module away from challenging RF environments such as inside an ENG vehicle or in a large crowd. The modem module for the TVUPack TM8200 can be removed from the backpack in seconds and quickly placed inside the weather resistant enclosure without any tools. The enclosure features multiple mount points to be used in a number of different configurations. The system can be reconfigured as a backpack unit in seconds for run-and-gun coverage outside of an ENG vehicle. Additionally, the TVUPack TM8200 encoder measures only 8.5 x 7.25 x 2.25 inches and can be used in a backpack or mounted inside an ENG vehicle, making the solution much smaller and more flexible than rack mountable encoders installed in ENG vehicles.

The modem module connects to the TVUPack encoder via a single 10 foot USB cable and requires no additional power. MARC-1 features an internal cooling system and an aerodynamic shape, making it an ideal live solution for traffic cameras, storm coverage, cycling/marathon/parade event coverage, moving vehicle live shots, coverage in crowded areas and boat use. Additionally, TVUPack’s fast startup capability enables field crews to transmit live video faster by transmitting footage over 3G/4G connections in less than a minute, and seamlessly begins transmitting over the ENG vehicles satellite or microwave link once connection is established.

“TVUPack solutions have been compatible with standard ENG vehicles for more than a year, giving broadcasters the ability to send HD video over any combination of 3G/4G cellular networks, microwave, Ka-band, or satellite networks simultaneously,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “With MARC-1, broadcasters can utilize the flexible nature of TVUPack, using that pack inside the ENG truck or on the go.”

Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVUPack family of products gives broadcasters satellite and microwave TV truck functionality in a lightweight, portable and untethered form. TVUPack is the original one button operation backpack, is simple to use and provides broadcasters with low-latency, HD-quality signal that enables them to broadcast live at any time and from any location. The TVUPack family of products has been used to deliver professional-quality live HD footage of a number of important events around the world including the World Cup, the London Olympics, U.S. presidential elections, Hurricane Sandy, and the 2013 Papal conclave.

MARC-1 will be on display at NAB 2013 in TVU Networks booth number SU7105.
