Russia’s VK expands network with Global Crossing

Russia: With Sochi 2014 only just over the horizon, it’s perhaps significant that VK, a leading Russian social networking site with 150m users, has purchased IP Transit and Wavelength Services from Global Crossing to accommodate its rapidly expanding services.

With a recent upgrade to its Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based IP network in the Nordic region of Europe, Global Crossing is providing VK with several 10 Gbps IP Transit ports in Helsinki and Stockholm. In addition, Global Crossing is providing 10Gbps Wavelength Services among VK’s sites across Europe and in the US.

“We selected Global Crossing for its network reach and high level of customer service,” said Oleg Lyubimov, chief infrastructure officer, VK. “Tens of millions of people rely on us every day to find and communicate with friends. Our ability to reach 100% of the Internet reliably and securely is of the utmost importance to us.”

“We are delighted to welcome VK as a customer, and appreciate the trust they have placed in us to help facilitate their growth,” said Dag Aanensen, vice president of sales for Global Crossing EMEA. “Our team brought VK onboard quickly and seamlessly and I am looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship between VK and Global Crossing.”
