Blackmagic Design announces nine new products at NAB 2013

Headline developments from the increasingly prominent broadcast technology developer included the addition of two new models to its camera family in the form of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.

The Pocket Cinema Camera comes with a Super 16mm sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, an MFT mount, and records in ProRes and 12 bit RAW. The Production Camera 4K is a new high-resolution 4K digital film camera with an innovative large Super 35 size sensor with professional global shutter, combined with precision EF mount optics and high quality Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) file recording.

Other new development showcased at NAB included ATEM Production Studio 4K, billed as the world’s first Ultra HD/4K production switcher with support for Ultra HD live production with GB-SDI and HDMI technology. It lets customers connect up to eight SD, HD or Ultra HD 4K video cameras, disk recorders and computers for live production and includes all the features expected from a professional switcher, including chroma key, transitions, media pool, downstream keyers, audio mixer, multi view, and 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K video connections.

Blackmagic Design also highlighted its first audio-focused product line, the Blackmagic Audio Monitor. Featuring Ultra HD 4K technology built in as standard, the Blackmagic Audio Monitor is a new rack-mount monitoring solution with advanced 6G-SDI video for Ultra HD video sources, along with regular analogue audio and SDI video inputs, integrated video monitor and integrated LED level meter.

The company also showed: the latest update to Resolve, Resolve 10; the newly developed ATEM Studio Converter 2 product; a new software update for the HyperDeck Studio PRO Ultra HD recorder/player; the SmartScope Duo dual-rack monitor with built-in broadcast accurate waveform monitoring on 8-inch LCD screens; the DeckLink Mini Monitor and Mini Recorder; and the MultiDock rack-based hard disk chassis.

Finally, Blackmagic Design announced that its entire range of desktop video products will support the next generation of Adobe’s pro video tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro Next and After Effects Next, and confirmed a collaboration on ‘future integrations’ involving Blackmagic Design’s desktop video product lines and Autodesk technology.
