Olympics production and 5G to provide cornerstone content for SATIS Expo

SATIS Expo is taking place from 15-16 November, and there will be plenty of interest for members of the SVG Europe community.

Held in La Plaine Saint-Denis to the north of Paris, SATIS is a French-speaking trade show dedicated to creation and technological innovation at the service of the media, entertainment, and AV communication industries.

Organised by Génération Numérique with the support of Seine-Saint-Denis, Plaine Commune and the CNC, the Expo also encompasses Screen4All, the Forum for Innovative Technologies for Film, Television and New Media. The event also hosts SATIS TV, the first French-speaking event channel dedicated to the sector.

Sports focus

As well as several keynotes, around 60 panels are taking place, with more than 220 experts. Several conference sessions are of particular interest to those working in sports broadcasting and production.

On 15 November, Vitec is hosting a session on remote sports commentary solution thanks to an ultra-low latency streaming solution, while another session looks at SDR/HDR conversions in an SMPTE-2110 context.

Looking forward to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, a session on 16 November will cover how 5G will immerse spectators in the heart of Olympic performances. With a look at how innovative content creation devices will benefit from the contribution of 5G, three major operators in the production, creation and distribution of content will reveal expected developments in their processes thanks to 5G.

On the same day, there’s a session looking back at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and another on 5G: From camera to production, while Sport and Live Capture: What environmental impacts? will see panellists from Canal+, France Televisions, AMP Visual TV, and Ecoprod question the environmental issues linked to sports broadcasting, asking which brakes and levers can be used to limit the impacts of capturing live events.

There is also a focus on environmental concerns. “SATIS 2023 will not ignore CSR [corporate social responsibility] and the carbon impact of our industries,” said Faudeux. “These subjects are very important to us, and we particularly invite visitors to attend three conferences: Eco-filming: a review of a key year for cinema and audio-visual; The future of sets between modernity and eco-responsibility; and a presentation by CNC [French National Centre for cinema], titled CNC Action Plan: a study of the carbon footprint of filming studios.”

Heavy hitters

More than 150 exhibitors are on hand at the Expo, among them Avid, Blackmagic Design, and Ross Video.

LiveU is showcasing its fully native live video production service, LiveU Studio, a fully featured SaaS solution, that is the first to natively support LRT. The company is also showing its multi-camera production-level field unit LU800, the compact LU300S field unit, as well as the Solo PRO for live streaming.

Belgian provider of live and remote IP production solutions, NetOn.live, will be showing its LiveOS Production Platform, which enables local, remote, and decentralised live media production, running on COTS IT servers in SMPTE 2110 video-over-IP networks.

Limecraft is also at SATIS Expo. As well as discussing how to create a secure and efficient content delivery process, it will be focussing on challenges around workflow automation, media asset management and how its enhanced AI can help manage and monetise content more effectively.

Egripment is showing the HotHead 3, a remote camera head designed to support the largest HD studio or portable cameras together with any combination of lenses and accessories, up to a maximum load capacity of 60 kg.

Also at the show, Phabrix will highlight its QxP portable waveform monitor with regional distributor Tevios. Designed to meet the demands of today’s hybrid environments, the QxP features a highly adaptable architecture influenced by the QxL rasteriser and integrates waveform monitoring, signal generation, and analysis functionalities to address a wide range of production requirements.

It comes equipped with a built-in 3U multi-touch LCD screen and offers users the convenience of V-Mount or Gold-Mount battery plates for improved portability.

German company BotSpot will exhibit Botscan Neo for the first time in France, a full-body volumetric 3D scanner to create digital twins/avatars with a resolution of 0.05 mm.

Leader, joining colleagues from its Paris-based channel partner Audiopole, is also exhibiting. Djamel Djadi, Business Development Manager, said: “Core of the Leader demonstrations will be the new LT4670 SDI/IP reference and test signal generator.

“Occupying just 1U, this compact high-precision instrument is robustly built for use in remote production control facilities, OB trucks, and editing and grading suites. The LT4670 is available with a wide range of tools including six independent analogue synchronous signal outputs, digital audio outputs and linear timecode in/out.”

Connecting people

Following feedback from a significant number of visitors who found their current job on SATIS and also noting a growing number of partners expressing their difficulty in recruiting, the organisers of SATIS wanted to take a step forward concerning their social responsibility.

As a result, the Expo is hosting ‘Jobdating’ on the first day of the show, with more than 200 candidates expected. A 200 sqm space is dedicated to promoting networking between candidates and recruiters from TV channels, service providers, equipment rental companies, media groups, post-production and VFX companies.
