One of the panel sessions at the next SVG Europe technology summit – FutureSport 2014, taking place at Lord’s Cricket Ground on 2 December – will examine the latest innovations in wireless camera/camcorder systems and transmission/reception for live sports broadcasting.

Questions to be addressed during the session include: how are RF and cellular-based camera systems transforming the experience? What are the most challenging frequency co-ordination and spectrum planning challenges encountered in sports coverage? What’s the potential for WiFi coverage in the 5GHz unlicensed band for OBs; the technology may offer lower latency and significant transmit distance, but is it yet robust enough for constant live coverage? And as 4K live sports TV production slowly emerges as a working reality, what will be the additional challenges of sending and receiving live wireless camera pictures in 4K UHD?

Panellists set to provide the answers include Mark Houghton, technical director at Broadcast RF, and LiveU regional sales director Paul Shepherd, with more to be announced soon.
