In his scene-setting address at next week’s SVG Europe Sport Production Summit, Dr. Hans Hoffmann, Head of the Unit on Media Fundamentals and Production at EBU Technology & Innovation Department, will examine the major technology challenges lying ahead for European broadcasters regarding live and near-live production workflows, and outline some of the key standardisation projects underway in relation to those workflows at the EBU in Geneva.

Hoffmann reveals that the primary points to be covered in his presentation include “changes in media consumption pattern [and the fact that we] will need new ways of production of sports content; UHDTV and a status update on standards; results of the FAME workshop on the UHDTV roadmap in Europe and a consideration of what happens in Japan and Korea; and new ways of efficient content production by means of remote and IP networks, and what this will mean for sports.”

The 30-minute presentation will also contain some thoughts on “which new technologies are on the horizon for 2020, and [what their] impact will be on sports production and the end-to-end chain.”

Hoffmann’s presentation will open the 2014 SVG Europe Sports Production Summit, taking place at NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky on 11 September.
