TeraVolt announces new TV mobile first concept based on TVxray

TeraVolt’s Tobias Fröhlich presents a case study on the Bundesliga at the 2022 SVG Europe Football Summit

At the beginning of March TeraVolt announced its new TV mobile first concept, which  integrates current artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning developments to quickly and efficiently help build individual solutions for TV stations and platforms.

The concept, which is based on TeraVolt’s existing TVxray application, looks to remedy lower viewing figures of young audiences on linear TV. According to a recent publication from private media association Vaunet, TV reach in 2022 fell to its lowest level in the past 30 years and TV viewing time is as low as it was 20 years ago.

Said Tobias Künkel, CEO TeraVolt: “We are increasingly seeing how TV viewers are changing their media consumption behaviour, fuelled by Youtube, TikTok, Twitch and co. This is both a challenge and an opportunity as we see exactly what users expect from mobile-centric TV services today. For TV broadcasters and platforms, this is a unique opportunity to create more value quickly and efficiently for their customers.”

Mobile devices have facilitated huge growth in additional media usage behaviour during the day, especially among the younger target group, which is characterised by short clips, interaction and, above all, personalised content that can be discovered, commented on and recommended.

The guiding principle behind the TV mobile first concept is that, at least since social networks have existed, groups of users have wanted to follow people, brands and topics, look at posts from other users, post and comment themselves and stay in touch with the community, and to do all this as easily and seamlessly as possible within the same platform.

TeraVolt, working together with the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL), has programmed and rolled out its TVxray application in Europe, Asia and North America in six countries in total. It enables broadcasters to offer a personalised service containing additional content for user groups.

Meanwhile, Tobias Fröhlich, CPO and co-founder of TeraVolt, added: “We make television from the consumer point of view, who ask for super aggregation and hyperpersonalisation. For this, the product and technical framework must be built with AI and recommendation scalability. When content and its data streams are brought together in a common, interconnected technology, additional and interactive services that enable added value for users, TV broadcasters and partners emerge.”

TVxray is an AI-based softweare as a service (SaaS)-enabled SDK solution that can be integrated into over the top (OTT) clients. Whether on a mobile phone or the web, the EPG on smart TVs or set top boxes, statistics and images can be retrieved with a click, all synchronised with the current broadcast.

This enhances the viewers’ understanding of the game and boosts their engagement with the stream. At the same time, the system learns about the user’s preferences via the Activity Feed and optimises their customer profile, whether for advertising or premium content.
