British Basketball League appoints new chief content officer
The British Basketball League (BBL) has appointed Jose Garnes to the newly created role of chief content officer, to lead the creation of the league’s broadcast, digital and social media content.
BBL said the appointment of Garnes is the first of a number of hires in the media and content department for the league, with interest in British basketball continuing to soar across the UK, including record viewership figures throughout the 22/23 season so far.
Garnes joins the league having spent three and a half years as head of content at SailGP, where he led the sailing competition’s content team.
BBL chief executive Aaron Radin said: “We’re thrilled to have Jose join to lead our content team. We have demonstrated significant growth in the past year in content production, audience size and engagement and Jose’s appointment to lead our broadcast, digital and social media content will turbocharge those efforts and results.”
At SailGP, Garnes was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the sailing competition’s content, including the production of documentary series ‘Racing on the Edge’.
Prior to SailGP, Garnes held a variety of roles within the sports sector, including a senior producer role for Sunset+Vine where he worked with sports organisations and brands including the International Olympic Committee, Red Bull and the International Fencing Federation.
Garnes added: “There has never been a better time to be involved with British Basketball, so I am delighted to be given the chance to join the league. The league has some truly exciting plans for its content department and I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to help fulfil its ambitions of becoming a world class content organisation.
“I look forward to showcasing the very best content for our clubs, players, fans and partners as the league continues to grow.”
