Mediapro produces U19 FIBA Women’s World Cup with all-female crew

Grup Mediapro relied on a women-only technical crew for the production of the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, which came to a close on Sunday in Madrid, making history as the first time a sports broadcast in Spain was produced by an all-female team.

Mediapro, through its Broadcast Media Services division, was host broadcaster for event, deploying a 4K mobile unit and 11 cameras, including special cameras such as various robotic units. The team consisted of a director, sound technician and editor, producer, mixer, camera operators, and CCU and EVS operators.

The tournament brought together the world’s top 16 youth women’s national teams in a 56-game competition. Mediapro was also recently host broadcaster of the Women’s Eurobasket, held in Israel and Slovenia and the U20 Women’s European Championship, played in Madrid. It will play the same role for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 taking place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia in late August.

The group has a close collaboration with FIBA and in recent years has provided production around the world for 35 of its top tournaments, such as the Eurobasket, the AmeriCup, the Asia Cup and the AfroBasket competition.
