NAB 2023: Open Broadcast Systems releases features to enhance cloud workflows
Open Broadcast Systems is announcing new features to enable cloud workflows at NAB 2023. This includes interlaced to progressive conversion and the Cloud Digital Interface (CDI) protocol. These features allow for easy on-ramp to the cloud, as well as allowing for broadcast-standard encoding and decoding to and from cloud applications that may be more web focused.
Interlaced to progressive conversion allows end-users to encode interlaced broadcast video sources into progressive outputs which can be ingested into web-centric cloud applications, without the need for external deinterlacing hardware. This is especially useful in 2110 deployments where there are only small numbers of existing 2110 deinterlacing products.
The CDI protocol allows for transport of uncompressed video within AWS, in a similar fashion to SDI cabling in an on-prem facility. The company’s CDI implementation is a high-performance in-house implementation, with an event-loop based design and use of single instruction multiple data (SIMD) instructions to maximise performance and channel density.
