Whitepaper: Backlight assesses the impact of rising media consumption on media management

Backlight has released its 2024 Media Stats Report looking at the impact of rising media consumption on media management. This year, the report views media management data along with wider media consumption trends for a broad view of the world’s relationship with media today.

The way media is consumed has changed dramatically in the past ten years. Increased demand fuels the creation of new channels, and fresh media soon follows, inspiring a wave of content creators to join. Media management serves as a constant source of stability throughout this evolution by preserving the history of organisations and enabling each asset to reach its maximum potential by keeping it visible for creators.

Key findings from the report include the fact that data is migrating to the cloud and needs to be remotely accessible and that data is growing rapidly and needs to be managed. In addition, demand for video and other rich media is rising.

When it some to sports organisations that use iconik, they have an average of 230,000 assets and 260 terabytes of data. The report also highlights that how fans watch sports is changing as more viewers live in broadband-only homes and watch OTT via streaming services, and social media. As a result, the business model for sports publishers has broadened to leverage these new channels creating the need to store more formats, versions, and content.
